Tutorial - 3D Graphics on the Internet With Focus on VRML
Presenter: Stuart Lovegrove, University of Leeds
Abstract
This course is for those who would like to gain experience of VRML and other 3D graphics technologies for the Web. A hands-on VRML session is included.
The lecture part of the course will comprise:
- a brief overview of VRML - especially useful for those less familiar with VRML
- a review of more advanced features of VRML, that allow objects in a scene to have animated behaviour ... this will introduce the idea of scripts which can program behaviours
- a look ahead to the next generation of VRML, including human animation, external authoring interface, compression, collaborative VRML,...
- positioning of VRML with respect to other emerging 3D graphics technologies for the Internet, such as Java3D and DirectAnimation.
The practical part of the course will include the chance to gain hands-on experience of a VRML authoring system on an SGI O2 workstation - creating your own VRML world.
The presenter, Stuart Lovegrove, is part of the AGOCG team which supports the VRML / Java3D Information Centre. He is attending the VRML98 Conference in the US as AGOCG representative, and he will be able to report first hand at the tutorial on the latest VRML developments.
